Have Fun! Get in Shape! Help Children Served by Compass of Carolina!
Sign up to run in the 2019 St. Paddy’s Day Dash & Bash on Saturday, March 16, at Fluor Field in downtown Greenville. Compass of Carolina is one of the four beneficiaries of this year’s race that is sponsored by the Palmetto Children’s Charity. Help support Compass and the work that it does in the Greenville community by running in the race, making a donation or volunteering — or all three! Go to https://www.stpaddysdashandbash.com/ to sign up for the race, make a donation or volunteer for the race. Please make sure you identify yourself with Compass of Carolina.
Domestic Violence Starts Small (DVSS) is a key part of the Family Violence Intervention Program of Compass. South Carolina consistently has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the United States, and Compass believes that we will never disrupt this generational cycle of abuse if we do not help the adult victims, abusers, and especially the youngest victims. Counseling is offering at no cost to these children and adolescents.
Healthy Teens/Healthy Women (HTHW) is a therapy group for up to female teenagers who have been affected by domestic violence. In this safe environment they can discuss and explore issues of self-esteem, safety, assertiveness, body image, establishing personal boundaries, developing positive coping skills, building healthy relationships, and recognizing dating violence, manipulation, and bullying.
Second Chance Program is a 10-week program for youth ages 10-17 that have been disruptive or disrespectful at school, home or in the community. Most of these teenagers have observed domestic violence in their homes. Some goals of the program are to help troubled youth stay in school and attend classes regularly, and to learn to set goals for themselves and explore career opportunities.
The 8th annual St. Paddy’s Day Dash & Bash is a community-focused 5K event in Downtown Greenville and welcomes more than 3,500 attendees annually.
